Infection? terrible!!! ?

Okay, so I went to the doctor and got diagnosed with a yeast infection. I have little bumps and it is really itchy and it smells lk one.the itch gets really bad that it is sometimes painful, I think its because I have had it for a while so I assume that's why its so intense. Can someone tell me if this happens when u have it long and what to do
