My brother got attacked and robbed what can i do?

My thirteen year old brother was attacked and robbed my three boys from his school. They stole his itouch and beat him pretty badly, they bruised his left side of the face and broke several blood vessels in his eye. He was taken to the hospital and the doctors said that he is in a life long danger of becoming blind from his left eye. My mom decided to press charges on the boys but on the police report they only reported the robbery and not the assault and battery. What can we do in this case?
